GET READY TO PRINT. The playlist highlights a selection of the bands Western New York Book Art Center (WNYBAC)’s in-house Letterpress brand ‘Mohawk Press’ has created gig posters for (First Aid Kit, Of Montreal, Tegan & Sara, Broken Social Scene, and most recently for their December 2015 Asbury Hall show, Sleater-Kinney). We’ve also incorporated some songs that you’d hear playing in the print shop & our boutique. These are some of the staff favorites:)

So now that you’ve pushed play and become acquainted on a more emotional level with this week’s featured non profit, WNYBAC, then we’ll say Hello! Good morning! Good evening. Happy Friday to you! And to you… you old son of a bitch. It’s good to have you back.

It’s time to knock this weekend out of the park, full of knowledge about one of the coolest operations in downtown Buffalo, and a jaw that needs picking up off the floor after seeing this week’s regional instagram collection. Let’s dive in!

The Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) (wnybookarts.org) is an educational non-profit dedicated to Book Arts. We teach workshops on letterpress printing, screenprinting, bookmaking (hand-stitched & origami), papermaking and more for all ages. Check out our Workshop Schedule online: wnybookarts.org/workshops.

In addition, we have a boutique where we sell handprinted cards and posters created in the WNYBAC studio, and small press books, journals and other handmade ephemera by local artist entrepreneurs. If you can’t stop by the shop, look out for us on online marketplaces like Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/wnybac). We also have a gallery space where we hold 6 exhibitions a year, highlighting local and international artists in the Book Arts. As a small non-profit we have 3 employees: Executive Director Gail Nicholson, Program Director Rosemary Williams, and Exhibitions & Retail Manager Melissa Ellis.

We do a lot between just the three of us, and are uber grateful for our amazing teaching artists, volunteers and members who come in and help out at events, workshops and with printing! We love the Book Arts community in Buffalo, and hope you will find a way to fall in love with us too! So, stop on in, take a tour of the studio, browse our gift-shop & support local art!

Also, a few things to note, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we’re offering all non-members the membership rate on workshops if they register with a friend (20% off). Offer valid on February & March Workshops.

We hope you hit up the corner of Washington and Mohawk someday soon to explore, try new things out, and meet the team. Now – get inspired by some fantastic photography! Follow accounts that are new to you, and throw on your hat and gloves and get outside to take some killer photos of your own. Cheers.
