Community event to enlighten and empower women
We’re winding down on the 2020 presidential election, and the political world is abuzz. We can hardly, nor should we, move forward now the way we have in the past. The political scene is completely changed from years prior, with more diverse candidates and elected officials at every level. As Buffalonians, we should take pride in our city, including those representing it, but to do that, we need to know more about the political landscape in our city. On August 17th, we the people have the opportunity to do just that by hearing directly from women who have in the past or do currently hold local office positions.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Today the WNY Women’s Foundation announced the lineup for its What She’s Made Of panel, spotlighting the voices and experiences of women who have run for political office:
- Crystal Peoples-Stokes, New York State Assemblymember and Majority Leader
- Angie Kennedy, Councilor for the Seneca Nation of Indians
- Toni Vazquez, former Williamsville School Board member
- Angela Marinucci, 2018 Erie County Clerk candidate
- Elizabeth Rankin, Chautauqua County Legislator
The panel will be moderated by Morgan Williams-Bryant of the Girl Scouts of Western New York.
The Foundation’s annual What She’s Made Of celebration will take place on Monday, August 17 at 4:30 p.m. This year’s event will spotlight the importance and impact of female civic participation and women’s leadership. The event will be 100% virtual for the first time in its 11-year history.
Annually, What She’s Made Of is a major community event and fundraiser for the WNY Women’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women and girls. During the COVID-19 pandemic, with women disproportionately impacted by the crisis in terms of unemployment and caretaking, the WNY Women’s Foundation has been working nonstop to elevate the voice of and build solutions for women in the community.
