Is it hard to decorate your home without any snow on the ground? Are you feeling really lucky that it’s been in the 50s this week or are you starting to get some of those “OK that’s enough, I’m ready for some snow” feels? It’s OK, we won’t tell anyone. Here’s the deal! Snow or no snow, you gotta take those pictures of THE LIGHTS. Street lights, ornamental lights, tail lights, candles, the lights you climbed a ladder to hang from your roof, or the lights on the tree your decorated with your kid. It’s all for our latest hashtag project with Steph Dubin, @artiswhy – #FFWinterGlow. Use that hashtag and tag both of us on Instagram to be entered to win a framed print from Steph. Details here. Plus, next week’s Feature Friday will include every single submission from everyone! Get ‘grammin, taggin, and winnin.
On to our weekly feature of a local artist, small business, nonprofit, or advocacy group.
This week, we’d like to introduce you to the timeless beauty of Christa Penner’s work. She’s the woman behind C Designs and Illustrations. We’ve been admiring her work ever since we met her at last year’s Public Espresso pop-up during Peace, Love, & Grant Street. If you’re in need of some fantastic cards, prints, ornaments, or gifts, you’ll want to check out what Christa has in store!
I illustrate and create stationery and art prints. Current themes in my work include vintage everyday objects, with a mid century influence, food, specifically farm fresh produce and Buffalo, NY’s abundant beauty. My style is reductionist with a bit of whimsy and evokes a pleasant sense of nostalgia.
a huge thank you to @stepoutbuffalo for featuring our newest #buffalony a #winterwonderland card on their holiday gift guide! check out their full post for a list of great local gifts to finish off your shopping list {link in profile} A photo posted by Christa of C Designs (@cdesignscards) on
You can catch me at a few remaining pop up shops, or purchase items on Etsy here.
My taste in music ranges pretty widely. Right now, I am in full production mode for the holidays, to keep me going I listen to upbeat, music that keeps me moving.
Will 2016 be the year your small business gets noticed by a new demographic because you started spending your marketing dollars on projects that actually get attention? It can be if you give us a shout. risecollaborative@gmail.com

Built in 1901 for the Pan-American Exposition, the Buffalo History museum is the sole surviving structure from that year’s exposition.
